In October 2014, Marco Baccanti was appointed Chief Executive of Health Industries South Australia, the SA Government organisation aimed at developing partnerships with global life sciences industries (pharmaceutical, biotech, biomedical devices, clinical research organizations, telemedicine/e-health, nutraceuticals, etc.) attracting investments and creating knowledge intensive jobs.
Under Marco's leadership, Health Industries South Australia is committed to building an environment that investors can trust, with the legislative and regulatory conditions needed to succeed, and it has already supported many companies in the pharma and biotech sectors to relocate and expand operations in South Australia.
Prior to joining Health Industries South Australia, Marco worked extensively in biotechnology, biomedical and healthcare industry development in the Middle East, France, Spain and his native Italy. His previous appointments include Executive Director of the Dubai Biomedical Research Park and Managing Director of San Raffaele Biomedical Science Park in Milan. He has also served as President of the International Association of Science Parks, and on the boards of the European Commission, World Economic Forum, Confindustria and a number of biotech companies.
Marco has a degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Milan and has filed four international patents for new analytical methods.
